Things To Do

Things To Do At La Ganne

La Ganne is the perfect place to unwind and relax in the French countryside.  Surrounded by prune orchards and vineyards, guests can step out to explore the countryside on foot or venture further afield along quiet country roads to discover the many small market towns nearby and sample their attractions

Walks

The Duras Tourist Information Office produces maps of local walks in Lot and Garonne, two of which start out from Baleyssagues and pass  La Ganne.

Wine tasting

Many of the neighbouring vineyards  sell directly from their premises.  The Duras area produces a range of red and white wines which rival  the more well known Bergerac and Bordeaux wine producers. Visit the Maison du vin in Duras to plan an itinery and sample your preferred wines.

Further afield, but well worth a  visit is St Emilion and its wine producers.

Gardens

There is a private area of garden at La Ganne with patio furniture and barbecue  for guests to relax and enjoy the French outdoors.  Guests may also use the pool and newly constructed terrace area and enjoy the spectacular view of Baleyssagues and further afield.  The garden at La Ganne is particularly well stocked with fruit trees and shrubs which are visited by birds throughout the year.  Green woodpeckers, jays, barn owls, hawks and kestrels are regular visitors as well as hoopoe and  migrating cranes seen (and heard) overhead in March and October.

Nearby in Baleyssagues is the Jardin de Boissonna ,  which is open to the public on selected dates throughout the year.

Hot Air Balloon Rides

Hot air balloons are locally available from St Jean de Duras further details from Duras tourist information. A superb way (we’re informed) of viewing the countryside.

Chocolate Tasting

Duras has its own chocolate factory!  Here you can sample and purchase from a range of locally produced chocolates and other regional products. We recommend the chocolate covered prunes!

Vide Greniers, Fetes and Festivals

Throughout the year local villages and towns organise weekend vide greniers.  So if you like to wander around French carboot sales in search of a bargain there is always a vide grenier taking place somewhere locally.  Local ‘brocante’ sales too are similar but offering more stalls with professional antique sellers.  There is an abundance of fete days, villages hosting attractions, food and drink and sometimes soirees with dancing and fireworks. The fete des chapeaus (hats) in Monteton and the fete des fleurs in Duras are just 2 of the many fetes we’ve enjoyed.

River Canoeing

Locally available throughout the summer at Aurillac sur Dropt or venture further afield to the many outlets along the River Dordogne.
